Dupont…It’s not just about #24 anymore!

Recently I had the chance to attend the Dupont Business Partner product launch for their newest product Arilon.

Arilon is the newest offering from Dupont offering incredible control featuring a novel chemistry that is incredibly specific to insects. In order for the product to have any toxicity, it must first be ingested or absorbed by the insect, and then their unique enzymatic process alter the indoxacarb molecule (that is the active ingredient) into a MetaActive compound that is very toxic to the insect. People and animals do not utilize these enzymatic processes, so it is virtually non-toxic to us!

We are looking at this product and how it might fit into our portfolio. Look for your technician to upgrade you to this new, more environmentally sensible treatment product soon!

Here in Arizona we are used to the weather turning early. It just seems that when you live in the desert you expect the flowers to bloom sooner, the grass to green with the arrival of our Spring Training Baseball players and encounters with bees. Bees are an important part of our environment and a critical function to the agricultural community in our wonderful state.

The Africanized Bee, who has been resident in Arizona for over a decade now is a real and present danger to our safety. We recommend a few, easy steps to a) avoiding bees, and b) escaping from them if you need to. Africanized Bee Safety is straight forward and simple.

1. Avoid disturbing bees if possible

2. Avoid strong colognes, shiny objects and bleached clothing as these can aggravate bees

3. Run away if you encounter bees. Run in a straight line and get into a house, car or building as soon as possible.

4. DO NOT try to jump in water and wait for them to leave. Africanized bees can stay in the same area for hours.

5. Call University Termite & Pest Control for all your pest, weed and bee control needs.

I have had both the honor and the occasional dismay to have grown up in the business of pest management. Throughout my entire life I have had to endure the catty commentary of friends, acquaintances and pure strangers of “Hey Bugman”. There was a time when that bothered me, but I discovered that whereas I could never control the derisive chatter of people who had a less than professional view of my passion…I could do something about it myself.

We were among the first, if not actually the first company in Arizona to remove the “spray rigs” from the back of our trucks back in 1986. Without even being conscious about it, we began embracing “Green” service protocols, practicing a thing we called IPM, when the industry standard was to spray the baseboards and tell the customer that the smell would only last for a while.

Recently our company reached a milestone…We were accredited with the Quality Pro Green status (the first in Arizona!) through our National Pest Management Association. This means that each and every one of my employees, my sales staff, office staff and our company as a whole have embraced, studied, and passed tests for competency on the subject of Green Pest Control.

We always considered ourselves Green….now we have something to back that claim up.

It is our hope and intent that our little corner of the internet will become a source of entertainment, information and at times humor. We will be discussing the various happenings in our industry, interesting green initiatives, governmental action and what this means to people interested and concerned about pest managment.

We have been serving Arizona since 1974 and in that time we have seen our entire industry change drastically. It is our sincere wish that you join us.
